1927년 버지니아 Stratton에서 태어난 Ralph Stanley와 그의 형 Carter는

Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys를 결성했다.

1946년 Ralph와 Carter는 한 라디오 방송국에 소개되었다.

 

그들의 음악은 버지니아 산의 집에서 영감을 받아 만들어졌고

그들에게 용기를 북돋아준 것은 그의 어머니로서 그녀는 Ralph에게 밴조 연주하는 법을 가르쳤다.
